Brief Biographical Information:
Research scientist in the Dept. Pharmacutical Chemistry, University of California, San Francisco.
Support research in the NASA/Ames Research Center's Exobiology Branch.
NRC Postdoc, NASA-Ames Research Center, 1990-1991.
Ph.D., Physical Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley, 1988.
Research:
Theory of aqueous solutions and interfaces. Computer simulations of water-membrane interfaces.
Adsorption and transport of small solutes across membrane interfaces. Structure and function of ion channels. Computer simulations of astrophysical ice.
Research on Leonid MAC:
High resolution visible and near-IR spectroscopy of meteors.
Meteor observing is my hobby. I support the study of molecular band emission of meteors in
order to get data on the
aerothermochemistry of meteors and the supply of organics to Earth by
extraterrestrial matter. As an expert in molecular dynamics calculations,
I am especially interested in the astrophysical implications
of rapid heating and quenching of organic materials such as that might happen in meteors.
