I was a young army officer on a 5 day exersise in the desert
Of new mexico in november, 1966. Three of us were sleeping
Under a 2.5 ton truck, when  before sunrise  the truck driver
Rolled out from under the truck .my friend, bob parks, said
To him, "how is the weather out there, sarge?" The reply was,"i
Don't know sir, but there are a lot of shooting stars out
Tonight.' bob and i looked at one another and then rolled
Out and looked up......incredable what we saw and heard!
Dozens and dozens of shooting stars and every couple of
Seconds the sound schoosh--- schoosh--- schoosh. No one
Else on the exercise saw it, and all  thought that we were
Crazy. We were 3 more days in the desert and by the time we
Returned to  ft.bliss, el paso , texas, whatever the local
Papers may have covered was finished. It was 10 or so years
Later that i read in the guiness book of world records about
The leonid meteor shower of nov. 1966  i  then knew what  we
Saw and heard that early morning in the sky over
Southern new mexico-something to never ever forget!
